SELECTING A CONTRACTOR

On relatively small construction jobs such as residential driveways, it is very important that a reputable, competent contractor be chosen. Since private homeowners do not have the technical expertise that public contracting agencies have at their disposal to control the project.  These tips may be helpful toward selecting a reliable contractor and obtaining the best possible driveway structure.

Make sure that your contractor is licensed in your state of residency and able to provide proof of insurance.

A qualified contractor should be able to provide references.

Select a contractor known for high-quality work and that has an established reputation in the community.

Obtain proposals from more than one contractor and ensure that all are bidding on the same scope of work.

Visit pavement projects built by the prospective contractor(s) and talk with the owners of the projects.

Insist on a written contract, agreement, or guarantee offered by the driveway contractor.  Retain a portion of the payment due the contractor until there is complete satisfaction with the quality of the finished driveway.

Make sure your contractor is aware of municipal, county, and/or state codes and requirements.
